Dr. Jeffrey Futrell is the founder of Young Man University. Young Man University (YMU) deepest commitment is to end the continuous rise of gangs and the activities associated with street gangs. Our approach is different in that we do not seek initially to remove a young man from the gang or set which he belongs to. In order to clarify our position as Christians and businessmen I would ask that you the readers consider the following. It is often said that young men join gangs because of the breakdown in the family unit and the absence of fathers in the home. The absence of the extended family and the lack of community participation also play a role. However, whatever has drawn our youth to become a part of a gang must first be addressed.
